About The Event

Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and doesWhat We Do

We’re building the largest pipeline of future female engineers in the United States.

CAPABILITIES

We offer learning opportunities for our students and alumni to deepen their computer science skills as well as their confidence.

CAREER

Our programs create clear pathways for Girls Who Code alumni from middle and high school into the computing workforce.

COMMUNITY

We build a supportive sisterhood of peers and role models who help our students and alumni persist and succeed.

Girls Who Code Clubs join together our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world.

Sisterhood

Join a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models where girls learn to see themselves as computer scientists.

Code

Learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis for all programming languages.

Impact

Work in teams to design a computer science impact project that solves real world problems the girls care about.

  • Require a desktop or laptop computer and reliable internet access.
  • Girls build character and coding skills as they learn, plan, build and celebrate together to create a project that they care about.

Why Girls Who Code Clubs?

The Problem: Computing is where the jobs are — and where they will be in the future — but our girls are being left behind.

Our Impact

Girls Who Code values diversity, equity and inclusion as essential to our mission. We focus our work not only on gender diversity but also on young women who are historically underrepresented in computer science fields.

Our alumni who have already declared their majors are choosing to major in CS, or related fields, at a rate 15 times the national average.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed for students with a wide range of computer science experience. We have activities for girls with zero computer science experience all the way up to activities that introduce college-level concepts. The broad set of soft and hard skills we teach are:

  • Teamwork
  • Confidence
  • Time Management
  • Communication
  • Functions
  • Variables
  • Conditionals
  • Loops

What will girls make or do?

We will connect virtually on a weekly basis via GoogleHangouts.  [All Information is emailed directly to each Club Member] As a central part of the Club experience, girls work with one another on an Impact Project, where they use computer science to solve a problem relevant to their Club and community. Through this project, girls learn teamwork and leadership, while also learning the fundamental computer science concepts that form the basis for all computer programming languages: loops, variables, conditionals and functions.
